Cottesloe's Citizen of the Year

Friends of the Peppermint Grove/Mosman Park and Cottesloe Library plus Cottesloe Coastcare friends are all delighted that our dedicated volunteer ( and CCA committee member since 2006), Sue Freeth, has been awarded the 2010 Cottesloe 'Citizen of the Year' for her outstanding voluntary work in our community. The Friends of the Library received the award for 'Community Group of the Year'.

The Australia Day ceremony was conducted at Manners Hill Park in Peppermint Grove in a beautiful setting, in bright sunshine, with umbrellas and peppermint trees providing shade. Three Councils presented certificates to Australian citizenship candidates, then the Hon. Premier, Colin Barnett, MLA, Member for Cottesloe gave an address. The Men in Harmony choir sang beautifully and each Council presented awards to deserving groups and citizens. The Australia Day address was presented by the Hon. Julie Bishop, M P, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs. Kevin Morgan, the Mayor of Cottesloe, presented the award to Sue, as you can see in the photo.

Sue is an invaluable part of the wonderful Coastcare team, her on-the-ground work which she loves, plus her people skills and computer skills means that we treasure her - even before she received the award!

CCA and the library have benefitted enormously from Sue (and husband Rob and son Mike's) whizz bang electronic talents. Most people will know that it is thanks to the Freeth family that CCA has our website and blog. This has been a great boon to us and is a wonderful way of communicating with our membership and friends. Various teachers use our site as a teaching aid and we often receive emails from far and wide commenting on different articles. Sue also played a very important part in creating the Natural Areas Management Plan 2008-2012 for Cottesloe.

Another very special aspect of Sue's award is that she is following in the footsteps of her beloved dad, Dell Bibby, who received Cottesloe's Citizen of the Year award in 1996, for his tireless work towards creating the Wearne Hostel for the aged in Cottesloe. Mr Bibby was not well enough to attend the ceremony but Sue's mum, Eileen Bibby was present, and very proud, as you can see in the photo above. Rob Freeth and the Cottesloe Mayor, Kevin Morgan are also pictured with Sue after the ceremony.
